Journal of Skill Development (JSD)

India has gradually evolved as a knowledge based economy due to the abundance of capable, flexible and qualified human capital. With the constantly rising influence of globalization, India has immense opportunities to establish its distinctive position in the world. However, there is a need to further develop and empower the human capital to ensure the nation’s global competiveness.

Journal of Skill Development makes an effort to identify the learner of today’s India through the contributions from Skill Developers from both Industry & Academia. The comprehensive profiling of the learner is attempted by considering key questions in this issue. The analysis of the Indian system displays a grieve picture of the current scenario, although the current primary education enrolment is high, not many students complete their high school education in order to graduate to tertiary education. Finally, a need for intensive efforts in achieving the skilling target of 500 million workers by 2022 exists.

The good news is that a sense of realism and realization has evolved among both the government and private sector, which will lead the country toward further economic prosperity through their pooled endeavors. Formation of Ministry for Skill Development is a new initiative which will pave a path for new journey in the era of Skill Development.

The suggestions are solicited from readers of JSD to further enhance the quality of the Journal.
